Service Description
At Valentines Podiatry, a biomechanics appointment is designed to assess how the structure and movement of your feet may be contributing to pain or discomfort elsewhere in your body, such as your ankles, knees, hips, or back. This is also very useful for prevention of injuries. Initial Consultation We will begin by discussing your medical history, lifestyle, and any specific symptoms or concerns you have related to your feet or lower limbs. Please bring a full list of any medication you are currently taking. Examination A detailed physical examination of your feet will be carried out, looking for any structural abnormalities or issues with the way you walk (your gait). This includes: • Non-weight bearing assessment – while seated • Weight bearing assessment – while standing • Dynamic assessment – observing your walking pattern Your mobility and posture may also be assessed to get a full picture of how your feet are affecting your overall movement and well-being. You will be assessed using our state-of-the-art Gait & Motion pressure plate system, which provides precise data on pressure distribution and foot function during walking. Footwear Assessment Your footwear will be reviewed to ensure it supports your foot health. Please bring 2–3 pairs of shoes that you wear regularly. Gait Analysis and Orthotics Based on your assessment, we will determine whether orthotics (custom or pre-made insoles) could help improve your comfort and movement. Orthotics can assist in correcting gait abnormalities and relieving pain and preventing injury. • Off-the-shelf orthotics: From£30 • Custom-made Phits 3D-printed orthotics: £250 Treatment Plan Together, we will develop a personalised treatment plan tailored to your needs. This may include: • Short, medium, and long-term lifestyle advice • Stretching and strengthening exercises • Footwear recommendations • Orthotic prescription • Shockwave therapy • Referral for imaging (e.g. X-ray or scan) if needed • Follow up appointment if needed
